T² assisted Auckland Transport in working out a solution for bus stop 1039 outside 109-111 Onehunga Mall where the existing waiting area was too narrow to provide a seat or shelter facility.
The bus stop is a key transfer point for passengers from the region’s rail network to Auckland International Airport via the Airbus. A number of passengers have larger pieces of luggage which can create issues by blocking the existing footpath.
| The original bus stop facilities were very limited with no seating or shelter for
waiting passengers. The footpath was too narrow to install a suitable waiting area.
The proposal was to create a new waiting area by extending the footpath. The extension would be to the rear of the footpath and be created by installing a supporting structure in the adjacent Park and Ride car park. This structure would be placed in the existing garden up against the existing retaining wall and provide sufficient room to install a large bus shelter.
