Bayswater Ave School Crossing Improvements

Bayswater Ave School Crossing Improvements

T² was involved in the investigation and scheme design for the upgrade to the school pedestrian crossing on Bayswater Avenue.

The school pedestrian crossing at 181 Bayswater Avenue is patrolled by the school during school start and finish times. Following an incident where a child was slightly injured in an incident on the school crossing, parents and the school asked for safety improvements for this crossing.

The main issue at the pedestrian crossing is the speed of vehicles on Bayswater Ave. This section of Bayswater Avenue is a wide, straight and flat section of road. The crossing does have advanced warning signage however there are no other traffic calming features that slow down traffic as it approaches the crossing.

It was proposed to build a kerb projection on each side of the crossing to make children waiting to cross more visible to approaching traffic. Raising the profile of the crossing by a maximum of 50mm will also make the crossing bars more conspicuous.

Scope of work:
  • Undertake a site visit to take photographs and measure up roadway and features
  • Prepare a sketch design (prior to CAD work) for review
  • Prepare preliminary plans
  • Consult with the school on the design
  • Prepare a brief feasibility report
  • Prepare a schedule and rough order cost estimate
  • Submit final reports/drawings
