T² was commissioned to develop a traffic management plan for the access road and car park on the western shores of Orakei Basin. The access road and car park are frequently used by users of the basin. Examples of some of the uses of the basin include power boating, waka rowing, kayaking and yacht racing (both model and full sized yachts).
The traffic management plan involved improvements to the car park and access road that would see an increase in pedestrian safety and provide more separation between vehicles. The car park modifications incorporated feedback from consultation with users of the basin to improve access to the water as well as improvements to the vehicle operation of the car park. Modifications to the access road addressed long term surface damage and will dramatically increase the lifespan of the road and car park.
Finally measures were taken to protect archaeologically significant shell middens in the area from further damage.
